The Metallurgical Engineering is an ancient engineering field which laid the foundations for the development of other engineering fields. Metallurgical engineers play a vital role in development of materials for so many applications in various engineering fields. The department aims at producing quality engineers with sound technical knowledge and awareness of the latest advancements in existing and emerging technologies. With pride we state that ours is the only polytechnic college in Tamilnadu offering diploma in Metallurgy with full-fledged support of a fully mechanized foundry division. The history of the department dates back to 1983. The metallurgy Department was initially established in the Sakthi Auto Components Ltd premises at P.G.Palayam.

The students were trained in the equipments and machineries in the Industry. On June 1993 the department was shifted to parent campus. Our department is fully equipped with various laboratory equipments worth of Rs 23 lakhs and we have a full-fledged computer center. Our Students are given industrial training of one day per week at Sakthi Auto Components Ltd, Foundry division and have the opportunity to learn and use highly advanced equipments. It helps them to become strong in understanding theory and gain immense fieldwork knowledge. The continuous efforts and encouragements given by our staff member’s helps our students in achieving First class with Honors and 100% results in almost all semesters. We are arranging guest lectures, technical visits and In plant training to all students during their vacations. Also in order to develop student’s communication skills we give those Spoken English and spoken Hindi courses. Our college has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Sakthi Auto components Ltd, Sakthi Sugars Ltd., and EEDISSIA, Erode to extend the facilities available in various industries to the benefit of our students. IIF, Institute of Indian Foundry men’s student’s chapter is also functioning for the benefit of Metallurgy students, which helps them in getting latest updated informations in the Metallurgy scenario, especially in Foundry sector. Also the students are allowed to attend conferences, workshops and other activities as arranged by IIF.
