Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have been identified as the two most backward groups of Indian Society. They include all such castes, races or tribes, which have been declared as scheduled castes and scheduled tribes by the Constitution of India under the provisions of Article 341 and 342 of the Constitution of India. Scheduled Castes generally represent those communities, which have suffered from the stigma of untouchability in one form or the other. Scheduled Tribes are generally those who have been living in seclusion in hills and forests, more or less untouched by modern civilization and development.

The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) Cell of Sakthi Polytechnic College was established in 2019 with the purpose to empower the SC/ST Students in the college.  It is expected to provide special inputs in areas where the students experience difficulties.

The cell will also take care of the implementation of reservation admissions to courses in   Govt. aided polytechnic college for SC/ST students.


OBJECTIVES & FUNCTIONING OF SC/ST CELL:

  • Circulate State / Central GO’s Circulars from time to time and to collect information regarding course wise admissions of the candidates pertaining to SC/ST in the college on annual basis.
  • Analyze information on admissions, examination results training and employment of SC/ST Students.
  • SC/ST cell is expected to look after Grievances of Students and provide necessary help after consultation with the competent authority.
  • To instruct all students must attend the special programs such as life skills, spoken Hindi, Personality development, Writing assignments, and Making presentations.
  • To organize Interactive sessions, informal meetings with students to address their Personal & Social problems.
  • The SC/ST/OBC/PWD students can approach the Co - Ordinator of the cell for redressal of any grievances regarding Academic/ Administrative / Social Problems.
  • The committee meets at least two times in a year.
  • The committee functions under the Chairmanship of the Principal.

   ACTIVITIES

  • To circulate State Government and AICTE decisions about different scholarship programs.
  • To collect reports and information of State Govt. and AICTE orders on various aspects of education, employment of SC/ST Students.
  • To communicate with the students and motivate them for better future planning.
  • To counsel and guide SC/ST students and help them to manage academic and personal issues of   college life effectively.
  • To ensure provisions of an environment where all such students feel safe and secure.
  • Monitor the working of the remedial coaching scheme and provide prompt counseling for any emotional emergencies arising an account of any event at the campus.  
  • To ensure protection and reservation as provided in the constitution of India.
  • To arrange for special programs to enhance their  carrier growth.
  • To aware the SC/ST students regarding various scholarships program of State Government and Government of India.
  • To encourage and enlighten the SC/ST students with regard the rights enshrined in the constitution.
  • The Cell also advises the students to utilize the facilities of the Book and to borrow books depending on availability in the college library.

    Scholarship is a boon for students belonging to the weaker sections specifically SCs/STs of the society, who are unable to further continue their education for some reason or the other. It is an encouragement for students, who are talented, but do not have the means to study further.
